The Driving Standards Agency (DSA) has announced that its online practical driving test booking service for learner drivers will be shut for 4 days, starting from tomorrow the 30th July.

The DSA’s Driving Instructor Registrar, Charles Morton, said, “I apologise in advance that there will a short interruption to service next week. For essential IT maintenance and update work to take place we need to close down all of DSA’s operational booking systems”.

Morton continued, “This system closure will last approximately four days from 5.15pm on Thursday 30th July until 8.00am on Tuesday 4th August. All online services to book or amend practical tests and other instructor services including updating your contact details, applying for registration, renewing your certificate and ordering PassPlus packs will be unavailable”.

The DSA’s contact centre on 0300 200 11 22 will only be able to offer a limited service during the closedown period.

Theory tests services are not affected.

The online booking option still isn’t working and it’s now past 8am !!

The phone lines are jammed and say the Que is over an hour but doesn’t give you an option to wait on hold, it just cuts you off.

It’s a bloody shambles if you ask me!

I have been trying to book my stepdaughters practical test now for 2 days and am extremely frustrated!!!! The website is a joke – crashes constantly and the phoneline takes you through all the options and then cuts you off stating “due to high level of calls we cannot answer your call”. What are you expected to do? I have read the other comments above about the online service was shut in July – did it ever reopen?!!!

If any of you still can’t get it to work it’s because the DSA cocked up changing the system, so anyone who passed their theory tests during a certain period last summer can’t use the number online. I had all the same trouble, couldn’t get through etc, then finally managed to book one. After months of complaining they finally manually added my number into the system, so it works, but I had loads of trouble dealing with morons who refused to even acknowledge the problem or provide me with any compensation for not being able to book/manage my test – plus getting cancellations is impossible on the phone. If anyone has had or still has the same problem, I’d urge you to hassle the DSA as much as possible. The chief executive is Rosemary Thew – send your complaints directly to her, even though she still doesn’t seem to realise that I am a paying customer (out of neccessity not choice) and they have an obligation to provide a working system. So far I’ve got £20…but I’m continuing to bitch about it because the inconvenience & cost are worth far more than that.
